John Squire

On John Squire’s debut solo album, he belatedly takes the role of lead vocalist, deciding once and for all that he was fed up of trying to break in singers to his band to simply refract his own ideas. Pulling in the expertise of Simon Dawson (the co-producer of the Stone Roses ‘Second Coming’, and long-standing ally of Squire’s), he began to tentatively record some initial demos fronted with his vocals. His desired result was ragged, lo-fi music with acoustic sounds and drum machine loops. The recording then took on a more rounded, virtuosic feel thanks in part to the people with whom he worked on the album, filling it with country-rock laments, rolling lyrics and bubbling arrangements
